Newbie Question- GB Keyboard + C64

I am mainly involved in video and 3d work but am looking to venture more into audio. I have a G4 800mhz imac with 768 ram. I have been messing about with Garage Band and having lots of fun (I also have sound studio). I wish to purchase a cheap keyboard to play around with. I am considering the M-audio Oxygen 8. Is this a good beginners keyboard? I would also like to connect in my commodore 64 to use the music maker package. How do I do this? Do I need a Midi interface?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
