ive figured out how to customize my icons using the right-click, get info, copy & paste method, but what happens to the original mac icons after you've replaced them. is there a folder containing all system default icons, or do i need to manually back them up if i want to keep them? if so, how do i do this?

Same way as you installed them... right click... get info.... now press APPLE+X (cut)... or press DELETE.. Viola! Your originals are back!

ticonderoga, welcome!!

The great thing about Macs is that *most* things are as simple as the above. In general, I have found that "the Mac way" tends to be the easy and intuitive way. If you are looking for the complicated way of doing things, you are still thinking in "the Windows way".

Enjoy luxuriating in "the Mac way"!
