Wow, that's pretty amazing. Most of those things might sound crazy, but they're not. I received a BS in applied math in 1980. My first programming class - FORTRAN IV - used punch cards and card readers for batch input. A couple years ago a co-worker and I were programming for two different environments - an 8 CPU compute server, and a 20+ machine compute network, using AI techniques for problem solving. The language I chose for us was Python.

The estimates of where we'll be regarding compute power in the coming years is consistent with estimates I've read. We live in amazing times, and the future will be very interesting indeed.

The worst part about the fact that computers will outperform the capability of the human brain was when the video was over, oother break.com videos appeared including "crazy man jumps through glass" and "huge weight dropped on head". I gotta say, I'm not shocked by those claims.

I have definitely felt the disappointment of learning outdated technology. In 8th grade we spent an entire semester learning DOS Wordperfect commands. The next semester all the school's computers were updated to Windows.

Teach your children mandarin. Trust me on this.

But the higher population of geniuses also means a much, much higher population of people who watch Jerry Springer.

It originally came from the staff at Arapahoe High School, in Colorado. See this link for more information.

Very, very neat, and perhaps a little frightening. Can robotic intelligence significantly exceeding human intelligence be far behind?
