Very tough! I think since other components can be chaged/added later that I would go for the G5. :p

Hmmmm....Well I'm waiting for the updates....If I can get a Dual 1.8 witha 20" for about $2800 like the rumors said at around WWDC, I will..i like the iMac's design especially the display, but I guess I just can't justify spending the same amt of money for a pretty computer as for a Super-Powered Computer.

the chances of that happening are about as slim as slim can get

the 20" is 1300 and the cheapest G5 is 1,800 and thats a single processor.....with the updates they will still keep single processors just up the speeds but for a dual with a 20" display your looking at atleast 3500 but realistically around 3800-3900 if you dont upgrade the machine

Based on your stated needs, the G4 with a 20" would look real nice sitting on your desk!!

But still, hard to pass up the power of the G5 ?!?!?

Like witeshark said, you'll be able to swap parts out on the G5 in the future, and that makes it more appealing.

I'd go with the G5 too :)
