• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have an older video camera that uses vhs-c tapes that I bought about 5 years ago. Id like to get a newer digital one soon. But thats another topic... lol

I have tons of little tapes of my son growing up that I would like to get onto my computer and eventually put onto DVDs (maybe use a program to put them in order, add background music, text, etc...)..

So really I have a 2 part question..

1. what hardware do I need to put this on my ibook??
2. what software will work for what Im wanting to do to edit/rearange the order, sound, etc of the movies??

Sorry Im new to this, never done any video editing before..(and new to Mac)... My Ibook will be here on Friday

You can do one of several things. You can get a VCR/DVD combo that you can copy VCR tape to DVD or you can get a bridge, something like dazzle. If you have a friend with a miniDV camcorder with firewire, then you can borrow it and use it as your bridge.

As for editting your video, you can you the iLife products (iMovie, iDVD).
