• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What's the easiest way to download a video off the net in mpeg or qt format and burn it to a DVD to watch on TV?

just use iDVD if you have iLife.

start it up, pick a template, drop a video file from finder into a blank area (you should see a "button" with the file name appear - this can be edited). repeat with other videos - the app will tell you if the file is too big, or if you have too many.

there are often preview areas on the templates as well. drop the same video there - or any one of the ones you drop if it was more than one.

then just go to the app's menu in the menu bar and burn the dvd - you will be prompted to insert a dvd at this point.

I don't have iLife. Just standard iDVD, iMovie, etc. Do I need to upgrade or should I be able to do this with the programs that came with the computer?

iDVD, iMovie are parts of iLife, so if you have either of those, then you have iLife.

When i try that with an mpeg, is tell me the action is not supported, do they have to be converted first?
