I think someone is spying on my computer. Every once in a while I will get these files in my trash can called recovered files and a Spy Temp file will come up with a screen shot of my screen. Please help as I hate getting f'in violated.

Thank you.

G'day rdm & welcome to Mac-Forums.

Do you expect someone to be spying on your Mac?

The recovered files (click for link) are not unusual, but do they contain anything alarming?

Do a SpotLight search for Spy and see what comes up.

Did you buy your Mac 2nd hand & when did you buy it? Is it secure - password protected? Who has access to your account?

Spy Temp file will come up with a screen shot of my screen...

That's definitely odd.

I second Pulse-8's questions. When and how did you get this Mac? Do you log out of it when you're not using it, or is it open for other people to use?

Did you buy this Mac on your own, or could it be that your employer/spouse/parents consider it to be theirs?

I would highly doubt anyone would be spying on your computer. If they were, I doubt a file with the word 'spy' in it would come up. A spy confirming they're a spy, isn't a very good spy :p

A filename with random letters and numbers would be less suspicious.

I found that temp files would show up in my trash occasionally after a restart. Try a couple of restarts without being connected to the internet at all. Turn airport off, disconnect your ethernet cable. If the file shows up again, my guess then it's probably not internet related.

It just seems a little far fetched to me. Spyware (on a mac) with the word 'spy' in the name.

But anyway, I'd try the suggestions above, as they would help to rule things out. Another thing to consider - did the problem begin around the time of installing anything?
