For once in a very long while, I will tip my hat to Microsoft. They really tried. I'd like to put a few positive points about Vista on here.

1. The interface is very pretty. (Thumb-nailed previews, fading windows)
2. Quicker feel than XP-Where XP "lagged" Vista seems to go right through.
3. Overall Simplification of previously complex items.

So for the first time in a very long while, I'm going to say nice job Microsoft. I'm sure many a Windows fan will be pleased. There are still many kinks to iron out, and much of Vista was taken from OS X, but I can't help but be happy that I switched a while back. And truthfully, it isn't the OS that keeps me coming back (although it is awesome) but it is the community like you guys who will respond to any of my questions within minutes of me posting it. So for today, I say Thankyou Mac-Forums, Thankyou Mac Users, and thanks Microsoft for giving us something to talk about.

CodeSamurai - have you seen this video ... DrQuincy posted it yesterday.

It's Desktop graphics on speed! I couldn't keep up with it...too much unnecessary twanging and bouncing for my concentration span ...!

Thanks for your review on Vista, there is so much hype at the moment it's ridiculous! Thanks also for your appreciation of this forum and its members.

I feel the same way Trent does. I love the OS but the whole community is great! It seems like most all Mac users have the same personalities!

Oh that video actually made me feel nauseous! I'd never be able to use a computer with an interface like that. Bleh.

Hmm I thought the UI was horrible when I played with it at Staples.

I thought the same thing Benjamindaines, and that Linux video was cool, but impractical.

yeah, it all seemed too springy - and all for no reason. So what if the window can become floppy if you drag it around? And I think we all got the idea of the cube after about 10 seconds of seeing it. Looked like an excited 5 year old was in control of the mouse.

And that music...anyone here played F-Zero? Was that a remix, because I'm absolutely certain I heard one of the game's tracks in there...

I've been using Vista since RC1 was released a couple months back. I have to admit that the GUI is a vast improvement over Windows XP. The animations are gorgeous and a lot of the eye candy seems to practical (ex. thumbnail views of programs minimized to the taskbar).

However, after having used Mac OS X for a while, Vista just seems to be too little too late. All the little annoying things about Windows are still there and Microsoft has managed to throw in a dozen new ones (folder paths, UAC, etc.).

Right now I have my computer dual booting Vista and Windows XP, but I find myself using XP the majority of the time. I find this ironic because back when XP first came out, I was using it as my primary OS even before the final version came out, but Vista has remained just a curiosity for me. I'm sure, given time, I'll transition to Vista, but I think I'll wait for the first service pack to come out (scheduled for later this year) before doing so.

They both use the same method to render the windows I think but with Windows you're tied to a certain extent to how Microsoft want it to look.

Linux being the amazing open source that it is means developers can customise it more and if you know what you're doing you can customise it too. That video I posted is well over-the-top but really it's more of a demonstration of it's potential rather than a setup you'd use everyday.

I'm pleased you like Vista but remember just how long it has taken Microsoft to get it out and how long some of these features have been in OS X. I mean the calendar and photo stuff in Vista is just like iPhoto and iCal.

I still prefer OS X. After seeing Vista's bugs, I don't want any part of it until after at least SP1. XP > Vista as far as I'm concerned. 5+ years of using Windows XP, and I haven't had very many issues with it, and I've had the same XP SP2 install on my computer for almost 15 months, still no errors or slow-downs, although I leave it run 24/7 and have maintenance scripts & defrag sessions run every night between 3:00AM and 5:00AM, based on fragmentation percentage, etc. - leaving me with a fresh computer every day, although it is mainly a file server anymore... :)

OK I guess I WON'T go look at Vista. I waste enough time surfing Mac Forums. At least I learn stuff!

To me computers and OS is about functionality not bouncing disappearing windows. *shrug*
