Okay, so my first mac (mbp) is due for delivery tomorrow, and I've been doing some research before it arrives, if I don't, haha, I won't know how to do anything. So here goes;

1. Is it true that I shouldn't use the administrator account for everyday use, and that in actual fact, I should setup a second account and only use that? Or is this just for noobs because they're likely to wreck something accidentally while using the administrator account?

2. What's this I've read about "turning up" the mbp fan when doing say, video editing/photoshopping? Shouldn't the operating system automatically adjust fan speeds to keep my macbook pro cool?

Cheers.

I use my admin account and I dont see a reason not to use it. You could set up another account for everyday use if you really think you're going to mess things up, but I wouldnt worry too much about it.

As PunkRockTuba pointed out, it really doesn't make much difference if you use the Admin account for daily use. Even while running under the Admin, the root user is still disabled by default. There really isn't much to worry about.
As far as the fan control is concerned, there really isn't any need to take over control of the fans. You are correct that the OS will regulate them as necessary on its own. Using a third-party app to control them is more likely to do harm than good over time.

Not much I can really input here since both of your questions have been more than adequately answered by D3v1l, but that rumor you heard about manually adjusting the Macbook's fan had more to do with the earliest models that had problems regulating their fans. It was amusing actually, they sounded like a cow mooing. :black:

So would that then make it a MooBook Pro? (/cheesyjoke)

I work on a secondary account as I too heard it was good practice for a "switcher". If anything it'll give you peace of mind to let others use your machine knowing they cannot make any changes, however small.
