    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.

I have a new MacBook Pro running the latest version of iMovie.
I burn the DVD from and iDVD project and the DVD runs fine on my Mac.
But when I run it on my DVD player hooked to my TV it will skip or crash at different points each time I play it. The DVD player is relatively new (2 years old maybe) I can't figure out why this is happening.
I did the burning from a disk image- not sure if that matters or not.
Is it possibly that my superdrive makes a really "fine" recording that chokes on a basic DVD player?
I have burned a ton of DVDs on my older iMac with no problem at all.

Any ideas?

That is very peculiar. Are you using the same brand of blanks?

Yes, I'm using Phillips DVD-R. The same batch I used for many other DVDs.
The SAME DVD will play perfectly on my mac, but fails on the DVD player AND fails on a regular iBook.

I've always wondered if DVD players can properly play fast recorded DVDs. Does your older iMac record at a slower speed. Perhaps you can try slowing it down on the new Mac.

As xstep suggested above me, you might try burning at a speed slower than Best. I don't think you need to go slower than 4X with a modern drive and good media. Another thing to try is using DVD-R media if you were using DVD+R or vice versa. DVD-R is supposed to be the most compatible with standalone players, but it may be the opposite with your player.
