Get the G4.

Remember the truth of the "megahertz myth". The two machines sound about the same speed (Mac = 1.25 GHz, PC = 1.5 GHz), but the GHz aren't the same. The G4 is much faster per GHz than the PC. This is a result of the very different CPU architecture.

Watch this short video, featuring the VP of Engineering of Apple explaining this very thing. He is speaking directly about the G4 so it is 100% relevant to you.

I loved this video the first time I saw it. I still love it. A very cogent and concise explanation of why a G4 wrings a lot more performance out of each cycle than a Pentium does.

Worse still, the PC has a Celeron processor - not a very speedy part.

Finally of course, Mac OS X comes on the G4 - you would have to put up with Windows on the PC.

Get the G4! :)

K... Not saying don't buy, but don't buy until you verify some things... two things strike me as odd, I own a 1.25 GHz iMac G4...

First, the iMac you mentioned did not, to my knowledge, ship with 512 MB of RAM installed, there was 256 MB with one user-expandable memory slot; so unless I am mistaken (which could be, don't get me wrong) "2x512MB" isn't possible unless the prior owner modified the factory-installed RAM. It more likely has either a.) 768 MB of RAM as mine does, or it has 1.25GB of RAM, of which Apple only promises 1.0 GB will work.

Second, the Apple SuperDrive is not DVD+RW. It is DVD-R, and Apple didn't (at release) specify that the drive would support DVD RW in any format... it is a CD-RW / DVD-R drive.

Not saying it would be a poor choice... I would pick the iMac over the winders machine any day, but wanted to make sure you verify what you're buying... in case you're opposed to DVD-R or were counting on "2x512MB"
