    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

Hope I'm in the right forum.

Newb. MAC Pro, OS X 10.4.8

Recently purchased a Miglia TV Max to digitize old VHS tapes. TV Max lets you choose between MPEG 2, MPEG 4 and DIVX recording formats. I recorded several VHS (typical 2 hour movie) tapes to my hard drive no problem, but the file sizes are a whopping 21 GB. The recording format I selected was MPEG 4 standard which, according to Miglia, should have taken up 1.8 GB per hour of recorded video. Can't copy a 21 GB file to a 4.7 GB disk. TV Max is supposed to do this conversion for you.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with TV Max, but you're capturing at full quality: 21GB is about right for two hours of footage. Is there an option/preference for compression?

You could try running the files through an app such as handbrake, or if you want to edit what you've got, iMovie, to compress them.
