• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

So I have a movie that is .avi and uses ac3 for sound. I have the ac3 component in my quicktime folder. It plays fine with sounds in quicktime and divx, but no sound when it plays in idvd. Im guessing this means that if I burn it using idvd it will not have sound, which is what I am trying to do. Any solution would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, these are the codecs I have and where they are on my HD:

Macintosh HD>Library>Audio>Plug-Ins>Components>A52Codec.component
Macintosh HD>Library>QuickTime>AC3MovieImport.component
Macintosh HD>Library>QuickTime>AppleIntermediateCodec.component
Macintosh HD>Library>QuickTime>Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
Macintosh HD>Library>QuickTime>Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
Macintosh HD>Library>QuickTime>Perian.component

My User Account>Library>QuickTime>3ivx D4 4.5.1 of OSX

I don't have any problems with .avi files.

The issue is not AVI, but the AC3 component. You best bet is to let Quicktime convert it to another format, like MOV and then import it to iDVD.
