• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

hey, i'm new to mac forums and not entirely sure if this is a stupid question but i'm going to ask it anyway. i have acquired a nice collection of dvds in my travels and studies abroad and would like to play them on my mac. i have used vlc a good deal in the past but recently have ran into some problems playing my region 2 dvds. i was wondering if anyone had any idea if there is now added security? is there a program out there other than vlc or can i somehow get dvd player to not be dvd region biased? i would appreciate any help on this. thanks guys and happy holidays.

i have tried to get this problem sorted as well but i haven't succeeded in getting it working but i think and have heard that vlc can do it and it is done by going into file open disc i have heard that and tried that but i got no where but my understanding is that ur dvd drive is set to only change a cirtian number of times and thats it but i think its possabe to use the likes of toast to get around it as it only mirrors the dvd but i got no where with that. i'm probably not useful but thats what i have to say might not be acurate
