• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

So I am going to become a video editor soon. I am going to school for it. Off the top of anyone's head what are some programs that would be good to edit movies and such.

I have Final Cut Studio. Is that all that matters? Or is there other programs that would be good to learn?

Depending on what the school you are attending uses, (Win or Mac), your software choices could vary.
FCP is good for Macs, Adobe's Premeire Pro is good for Win.
Adobe After Effects is good for both.

Well I did some research and have talked to video editors and they say they use macs. It's rare for them to use PCs. I use FCP and I have After Effects. :) And my school uses both PC and MAC. Thanks!

Depends on what field you are going into... if you are planning on owning your own post production house then pick your software to what your conformable with... however very few big production houses use final cut pro. If you want to get into the real world I suggest you start looking at avid.

Avid can bed used on both Mac and PC... most avid editors use pc because pcs can be built to be more powerful, but you could easily put avid on a mac and do the same stuff... The only thing a pc can do that a mac can not do (As of now) is SLI with the graphics cards..

I myself am a Final Cut Pro editor, but I am planning on having my own post production house in a few years so its just a matter of personal prefference to me. However if I do not achieve my goal I am going to have a rough learning curve on my hands when I try to learn Avid.

You don't have to have Avid. Final Cut can do the job. There are a number of company switching over to Final Cut because it is cheaper than an Avid rig.
