    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

Hello, Everyone.
I recently switched over to a MacBook Pro and now that the holidays are upon us I finally have some time off to try out some video stuff.

I want to hook up my Sony MiniDV Camera and digitize some video, and use Final Cut Express HD (or iMovie) and iDVD, and see what the results are. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the results will be!

But my question is: Do I need to purchase Quicktime Pro 7 and the Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback component in order to digitize video? I already have VLC, so I'm not sure why I would need the MPEG-2 Playback component.

Any input or suggestions people can provide would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

The DV on MiniDV stands for Digital Video. So it's already digitized. And iMovie HD will do everything you need it to. My question is will the Sony plug in. Does it have a FireWire/DV/ilink port? Or is it Sony proprietary BS?

Which model is yours?

You will need a 4pin to 6pin firewire cable. if you don't have one already.
