• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

On a MacBook laptop, is there a limit to how many cd's/DVD's the burner can produce before it 'burns out' itself?

I try to avoid making more than a few copies of something for this reason but I don't know how valid my concern is.

All optical drives have a limit, whether it be due to the motor, the bearings or whatever dying. However, that is usually in the order of years of use. The term 'burner' is rather a misnomer - it's using a low power laser to alter the chemical properties of a think layer of a disk; no burning involved.

sooner or later it will stop working but if its a big concern buy apple care for the computer which would give you 3 years of warranty on the computer. If it goes bad they will fix it for free.. My wifes fans went out and they replaced them. I would assume it would fall in the same category and they would fix it for free.
