• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hey guys. My brother's band played at some talent show and one of the kid's parents taped the show. I wanted to put it on the computer so I asked him to bring the camera over so I could put it into iMovie. I've got the correct Firewire cable and all that. Unfortunately, the kid brought the camera with a dead battery, and now he's at a movie, and no one is at his house. I'm leaving tomorrow morning, so I have to do this now.

I removed the battery and found a DC in. I have tons of DC plugs, but I really don't want to put a powerful one in and ruin the camera. How to I know what to do here?

The camera is a Panasonic PV-DV52D. From the label underneath (which is scratched) I can read "...8V, 6.5W (9.5W Max)"

The first DC plug I got (for one of those portable DVD players) says:
"Input: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 0.7A
Output: +9V (some weird symbol with lines) 1.5A (some more weird symbols with a "-" and a "+")"

I don't know the first thing about electricity and I don't want to be responsible for ruining these peoples' camera. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.

Not sure you're going to find a whole lot of people on the forum who will have the answer you are looking for. But, hey, you never know.

Do you have access to another camcorder to import the tape through? As long as they are both Mini DV, this is probably a better solution anyway.
