• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have a macbook and i just downloaded Mac the Ripper. I ripped a dvd perfectly fine and i tried to put it on a blank DVD-R. When i tried to burn it it says there was an error communicating with the disk drive. I tried it multiple times at different speeds and it says the same thing. How do i put the ripped dvd contents on a blank DVD-R so i can play it in a regular dvd player? Please help!

MacTheRipper works perfectly fine on my MacBook.

That said, it's not a DVD burning program-- I believe you need to use Roxio Popcorn or something of that nature to write to a DVD.

For the DVD to work properly you need to burn the video_TS and audio_TS folders to the disc otherwise the DVD won't play in a regular DVD player.

When you have these folders on your desktop create a New Burn Folder from the File menu in Finder. Drag the ripped folder to the Burn Folder pop a DVD-R into the drive and drag the Burn Folder onto the Trash. The Trash icon will change and the burning will (should) begin.
