• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

i'm having trouble playing a video of a track meet that i want to watch. i have quicktime, vlc, and then the flip4mac that lets me play wmv's on quicktime. however, when i open it in quicktime, it says "error the movie cannot be opened", and when i open it in vlc, it says something about a format it can't read and calls it "wmv3". i've never heard of wmv3 but i'm sure it wouldnt be too hard to figure out. any codecs i need/different program/ help?

There r a lot of sites who put their videos in Win Media Player 10 & 11 which Mac win player can not read because we have only Win Player 9 it says "NO PICTURE"
I'm telling u this because i'm having the same problem
But if u have a wmv file in your computer then open Media player & select file to play with.
For any other media (video) file use VLC player
& for the problem with vlc player what i'll suggest u is
delete vlc player & install again
