• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

We are doing a bit of Uni work which requires some editing in AEF 6.5.

For some reason however, I can't import AVI files into AEF.

My mate has exactly the same file as me, and it works fine for him in AEF on XP?

Anyone able to help out? (Other than suggesting buying XP :))

What kind of camera was used to capture the footage? With some cameras (such as a digital still camera with video capture ability or DVD camcorders for example) the video is extremely compressed and not intended to be used for editing.
Because of this compression, there are only a handful of actual video frames and the rest is interpolated information.....very few applications will let you edit files with temporal compression as there just aren't any real frames to edit.
It may work on your friend's XP system because the camera used to capture the footage may have been using windows media encoders to create a more compatible file for Windows systems.

Outside of that, I am stumped.

Hi Devilboy - I managed to get it working - I had to convert the file first. Because it was an avi it wouldn't let me.

I converted it to *.MOV and it plays fine, however when importing and trying to watch the video in Realtime at 25fps doesn't work in AEF doesn't work - it goes to the 15fps or near max but that;s it. :(

If you double click on it in the Project window, it should open a window to let you view it in realtime.
You can also do a quick RAM preview in the Time Controls window that should render it closer to realtime.
