• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'd really like to put some movie clips I have on YouTube, but they're HUGE files. I have one that's 2:40, but it's 552 MB. They need to be under 100. What can I do to compress them....? I'm very new to editing video on my Mac, so I'm a little lost here. Advice?

iMovie is the amateurs choice for editing and publishing on the Mac. You want to learn to export to a .mov file and size it to 320x240 according to this page. I suspect they would prefer you use the Sorenson Video 3 codec. Codec is the tech term for type of encoding used.

See this link on custom iMovie exporting.

Learn to search the forums. They are full of great answers and even when you don't find your specific question, it will be good homework for better formulating the question.
