Need some advice about ripping DVD's..

I just got Handbrake and ripped a few of my DVD's in the H.264 codec as someone said to do. I used 1-pass and it took about 1 1/2 hours each DVD. They play fine in Quicktime as MP4 files.
Then, i tried changing the extension on the file to match the iTunes store Movie files i had downloaded from there (M4v)and it worked. I was able to import my Movies into iTunes in this manner.

I only wanted these for viewing on the computer through Front Row but are these going to be compatible with an iPod?

if it plays in itunes, then it should be playable on your ipod. the file has to be in an mp4 format to play via ipod, so check that out...

but i would imagine if it plays in itunes, youre good to go on the ipod. give it a try and let us know.

Not necessarily - iTunes can play any h.264 encoded movie, iPod can only play those up to a resolution of 640x480 pixels.

Check the resolution (select file in iTunes, hit apple+r to show it in the finder, drag to Quicktime and select Window->show movie info) and if it's 640x480 or under it should play.

If not, reencode them using iSquint.
