directory size

can i get a dir size in os x, In finder is doesn't show me the size of the dir is taking up. least not when i open the harddrive icon, say if i open a dir with sub dir's located on the desktop it shows me the sizes of the sub dirs within that folder. kinda wierd. what am i missing here?

i am a little confused here on what you are asking. If you slect the folder and do a get info (command i) on it. You should see the amount of space the folder and its contents is taking.
