Hiding files

I know in windows all you had to do was right click and check it "hidden", then under the folder options just change it so that it didn't show hidden files. Is there any way to do this in OSX?

You may wish to consider PathFinder, an excellent replacement file manager for Finder. It has a simple control to either show or hide "hidden" files.

Check out www.cocoatech.com.

Note that I am not in any way associated with them. I am just a happy PathFinder user. Once you have a look, you will just how much better its file management capabilities are than Finder's. I couldn't live without it.
