Pressing Return to launch applications

When I use the up and down arrows to select and application and press enter it lets me rename them. Is there a setting i can change so it will launch them?

Are you talking about selecting it in finder? I don't think you can change it. You can hit command + down arrow to launch it.

I don't know of any way to change the keyboard shortcut for that but I highly recommend trying out QuickSilver

This program will change the way you open applications completely. Hit your hotkey to bring up the plugin, start typing the program or action you want to do and hit enter. Think Spotlight with no delay at all

You can add and modify keyboard shortcuts in the Keyboard and Mouse panel in System Preferences, however you cannot do what you're asking. Command-O is the default shortcut for launching apps.

Lastly, I recommend the above advice in that you check out Quicksilver, a free application launcher.
