• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

iMovie effects question?

Hello all,

I am using my new iMac to edit sports videos. I am looking for a effect that is not available with the standard issue iMovie or iPhoto effects. Specifically, I need to highlight an area of the video. Or if this is not an option, I need to create stills of the video and highlight an area of a still photo (from video). Is there a cheap (or free) download available that will allow me to do this?

Thanks for your help.

I dont know of any way to do this with iMovie. I know that you can import pictures into iMovie, so if you wanted to alter an image, this would be possible.

you can create still shots from the imovie menu and maybe download a freeware program called gimp to do the rest of what you want to do. It is the poor man's photoshop from what I hear.
