G4 upgrade??

so my dad finally decided he need a computer instead of calling on me for info he could get himself, so i decided a older g4 imac would be good for him not to powerful but cheap, and saves space, now i found a good one used on ebay only problem with it is it has a cd drive , not a combo a cd drive, has anyone ever upgraded the drives on these before ? wich ones are compatible with this model, cause i know i don't wanna pay like 120 bucks for a drive from some speciality company , i'd rather use a third party cheaper one since he'll hardley be using it at all

This is going to be a tough upgrade, because OSX drivers only support a limited range of drives (as Apple tries to limit hardware options to help with stability), not to mention disassembling your iMac is going to be tricky.

Personally, I think it sounds like a bad idea all around.

Just buy an external FW or USB2, it would work fine for the upgrades....
