Printer Setup

I am setting up my printer (HP photosmart c3180) to my MacBook Pro. I read that it is supposed to plug in and work. Well its not working for me. I tried to install some of the disks that came with the printer but still the same junk being printed. It prints one line of unreadable stuff and then shoots in and out all the remaining blank pages. Any help?
