HELP NEEDED - Best Video Format To DVD
I am currently in the process of taking all of my old VHS Video tapes and converting and editing them to DVD.
I am using the following process:
1. Recording the VHS onto a raw DVD using a DVD recorder. (as I don't have a converter).
2. Using MacTheRipper to extract the VOB files.
3. Using MPEG Streamclip to convert the VOB to quicktime files.
4. Editing the clips to managable segments that I can place into different iMovie projects..
5. Using iMovie to put together projects including the transitions.
6. Exporting to iDVD to put the menus together.
7. Exporting to DVD.
NOW, my problem is I do not seem to be getting the same quality coming out onto DVD as is on the origingal VHS video tape.
When the frame is relatively still, the quality is OK, but as soon as there is quite a lot of movement on the screen, there tends to be distortion around the areas there is a contrast in colours.
I assume that this is because I am not using the correct file formats somewhere along the line. I am not compressing the files at all.
What video file formats should I use;
1. When Exporting from MPEG Streamclip
2. When editing in Quicktime.
Any other helpful advise would also be most appreciated.
My system:
Powerbook G4 1.25gh
320Gig External Firewire Drive.
OS X 10.3.9
Quicktime 7.0.3
Thanks!!!
Dale
