• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm going into the field of movie editing, directing things like that for one of my classes. My new school is a Mac-based school meaning they strictly run Mac systems which I am happy about. I want to get away from this PC filth before Vista releases.

My question is, what Mac will do a great job for no more than $1200? For now I can just use iMovie and wait until I get the money for Final Cut Express.

Thanks.

Well, uh, nevermind. Since I'm a student I didn't look at the Educational part of Apples website. There I found the iMac for $899. Thats amazing. But I see it only says College and University students or K12 authorized purchasers or Staff members.

So, how can I have my parents buy it?

i dont have no mac's
i would call the school that you are in or are going to be in and ask them questions such as this one because they know their curriculum and what you are going to need.

also, they probably have rooms full of macs that you can use for editing with software on them while you figure out which one you want
