Organizing icons on the desktop

In windows, all you have to do is "right click, arrange icons by." Well, how do i automatically arrange icons on my mac? I liked where my HDD icon was, tucked away in the upper right corner, but now it moves all over the place and i cant get it to stay anywhere. Besides that, i would just like to have everything lined up nice and neat. Thanks!

When in Finder:
its Finder>View>Arrange By

You can also go to:

Finder>View>Show View Options, then select the 'Snap to grid' box


You can also get to the 'Show View Options' by right-clicking on the desktop
