I am ordering my new imac. I want to know whether i should opt to upgrade to the 250 GB hard drive and if I should upgrade to 1GB memory or are the things it comes with just fine? I mostly use my computer for internet, photos, music, and chat capabilities.

I would go for the extra RAM since you could always get an external 7200RPM drive at a later time. My iMac has 1 GB RAM and 250GB HD. This is sufficient for me now since i just go on the web, check email and do some photo editing. However I will be doing some video editing with my MiniDV camcorder so i will probably upgrade to 2GB before too long.

Upgrade to 1 GB because a lot of people on the forums said that it gives the system a boost. As of the harddrive 250 GB should be fine for what you do.

Are you getting the 17 or 20 inch?

Ok, then 160 GB should be fine for your harddrive for what you do. But if you want 250 GB, then go for it.

Good luck, let us know what you get.

will do! do you know if i can video chat with yahoo members using ichat?

From what someone told me on this board you have to go through Jabber in order to get Yahoo to work. Whether or not it will support the video chat portion, I am unsure. :(

Good luck with your Purchase.

No, not using iChat, you are going to have to use mac version of yahoo messenger. I think it supports video chat, but not sure.

The OSX version of Yahoo Messenger does support iChat. I have tried it a few times now on my iMac G5 iSight.

How I found out the video on Yahoo worked was an accident. I had just gotten up and looked BAD and someone invited me and the green light came on the iSight and I was sort of SHOCKED! :spook:

The quality looked pretty good from what I saw. I think it was better on AIM with iChat though.

I have a 17" iMac G5, 2.0GHz, 512MB 160GB HD. The HD is almost filled with DV clips, pictures and music, but 160 should be fine, if you don't have an extensive collection of music and DV clips, as I do.

Go 1GB if you are gonna be using FCP and stuff. I only have 512 but it seems fine with FCP and CS2, etc. A pinch laggy at times, but there are things to do to make it faster. Imagine what 1GB can do. :D
