Well, that was pretty amazing. This written and submitted on new iMac (20"; 2gbram; upgraded graphic card; 250mb HD) as first attempt at doing anything.

A lot of familiarization still ahead but this went embarassingly smoothly compared to what I've been accustomed to after a decade and 1/2 with PC. Thing doesn't even make any noise. Will disappear until I've done enough to have developed some meaningful opinions but I'm smiling so far. On we go.

Is it an Intel iMac, or a G5?

Mine should be here in a few days. In the meantime I'm typing on a 6 or 7 year old Dell 450mhz Win98 machine. The only thing worth salvaging will be the speakers/sub that I have on it.

Glad to see you tried Apple on for size one last time. As a 6 month user of a 20" intel imac I can report that I have had no problems whatsoever, with the exception of some programs not working because they aren't universal. Report any problems you may encounter and I am sure one of us has the answer. Enjoy.

Actually, about 1/2 of that time was taken for software downloads (upgrades and installs).

Thing is also quiet. I know there are fans in there but I can't hear them. My PC startled me when I started it up again.

I was absolutely amazed when I pulled my MacBook out of the box. It just asked me a few simple questions, saw my wireless network, and I was off! I was on the net in less than 10 minutes.

On the Mac platform I prefer Safari to Firefox, though Firefox is my browser of choice on the PC.

I use Firefox on PC because I like how works better than IE but the biggest reason for so many switching to it was that it is less open to hackers, hijackers, and bugs than Internet Explorer. IE has gotten better but still not as good IMHO.

One thing I really liked about FF was being able to open windows to multiple sites at the same time. Made comparison of info from various sites very easy and convenient. Unless Safari is able to do that, I may return to FF.

Can Safari do that? At this writing I am, literally, only minutes into beginning to learn Mac OS.

i personally like FF because of security, and tabs. tabs is the main reason and i have heard that it is faster than IE.

I wish i could say that I have had good experience with firefox. I have been on a bumpy road with that on my windows machine. :( If by multiple windows you mean 'tabbed browsing' I believe Safari can do this. The only thing I dont like about IE is Active X.

Have fun and good luck. :)

IE now has tabbed browsing.
