There are a number of apps that can get that info, I don't know of any command line utility to get that information built into the OS. I use the excellent iStat Menus to monitor various sensors, CPU load, memory load and so on.

I agree with both of the choices you were given. The Macs Fan Control app is free while the iStat Menus program is not. The iStat Menus program will give you much more information than the other program but again it's not free.

But it this a free software or paid? sometimes paid software are offered in free version but they exclude some option from it.

I gave you a link, and if you'd visit it you'd see that you can download a trial (14 days if I remember correctly) to play with the software and then purchase it from within the app if you are happy.

Does it also provides CPU temperature as well or only deals with fan control.

Yes, it provides for both CPU temp and also Fan rpm. I currently use it and right now it's showing my fan is spinning at 1197 RPM with a CPU temp of 39C.

Macs Fan Control will do everything you have asked for and displays on the tool bar like this:

+1 for Macs Fan Control.app

PS: iStat Menus is generally overkill for most users and I ended up removing my licensed copy.

Nice and simple and I like to run my 2011 iMac a bit cooler than apple's standards.
