best drive for external HD enclosure?

dual ext drive for backups and storage?

Hi,
I want an external drive(s) to use for two tasks:
backups
storage of photos

I want to keep it simple, no need for a NAS. Would it be better to get one large drive and partition it into 2?
Get an external dual-bay drive for 2 HDs?

Whichever way you choose to go, remember, the "storage of photos" needs to be backed up also, unless the "storage of photos" is already a backup of your Photos?
