ICC Profiles Suddenly not Found by ColorSync, Lightroom and Ph Shop

After years of no problem, suddenly none of these programs can see my icc profiles where they have always been and where they're supposed to be...Boot Drive>Library>ColorSync>Profiles. The profiles are still there. When I open ColorSync, they don't show up in the left hand panel. But if I go to the profile folder through the Finder, choose one of the profiles and then "open with" ColorSync, it does recognize that the profile is there and shows me the normal ColorSync technobabble about the profile.

As a work-around, I copied the profiles and moved them to Boot>Users>MyName>ColorSync> Profiles and the 3 apps CAN see them there. So I'm functioning OK. But I'm worried about what has gone wrong and future implications. Any ideas?
