• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi.

I have done a tutorial video and uploaded it to YouTube. However, I also need to have a text version.

Is there a way to either transcribe the sound to a text file, or even just to download the sub-titles that YouTube makes?

On searching the internet there are various ways touted, but they are either for Windows or are very dubious sites/programs that I wouldn't trust!

There are voice to text programs for the Mac but they are not inexpensive. (Nuance software)

There is also this site which will transcribe your voice to text, but again is not free but they do have a trial offer which you might be able to use.

Thanks chscag, but not what I need or can afford! Those only do my voice to text, which the free app Dictation will do. I require one to transcribe videos I have already done, so from the computer's sound, not microphone.

Did you try an internet search? Maybe try searching for, audio file to text? I haven’t used one, but I know they exist, maybe an open source app will be available?
