My wife and I each have a new iPhone X. The Compass app on both of them is highly unreliable, giving readings that are verifiably incorrect. I have used all the calibration instructions I can find on the web, but to no avail. Is anyone else having the same issue and, if so, was able to resolve it?

UPDATE: I restarted my iPhone and lo and behold the Compass is now accurate!

Don't have an answer for you but hope you get an answer before the owners shut this forum down completely. See here Here's a quick summary:

1. The owners have announced that this forum was to be shut down as of December 31, 2017. I suspect that the only reason we are up today is due to it being a holiday.

2. Dennis (a.k.a dtravis7) is in the process of setting up a new forum and several of the current admins are working to set up a new site. A domain has been registered and forum software purchased. The guys are working feverishly to get things working as soon as possible.

3. The new site is not ready for member logins yet. If you would like to be kept informed about when the new site is up and ready Join Denis's Facebook group or PM me an email address and I will add you to the email list.

I have never had it work right on my 7+ or X. The X is the worst. I could take the 7+ and it would start off correct then it would start to shift a degree at a time - even if the phone was not moving! I don't depend on it.

Well, the OP seems to have solved it??

By the simple expedient of rebooting the X. Noe there’s a novelty :Mischievous:

Interesting and thanks for the info Lisa.

I'll have to do some checking on my wife's recent iPhone 6S acquisition in case she needs proper directions sometime.

Now that's a novel approach eh??? ;-) … but somehow I doubt it will fix Lisa's compass problems… :[ Just an educated guess though…

I did a reboot and it seems to have worked. The compass seems to be better. At least it found North! I doubt I will rely on it though.

I can't believe that you've never rebooted your iPhones or to get the compass working properly. Hmmm…???

Anyway, glad to hear things seem to be working.

Oh well, at least if one has trees with moss around they should be OK and don't even need an expensive gadget to tell where North should be!! :Blushing:

I have rebooted the X but not because of any issues. I have never used the compass. When I was a bit younger I use to backpack and be gone for weeks at a time camping in very remote areas. I had an old fashioned (now) compass that I carried in my pack. Never got lost!

LOL, might be time to break out that Girl Scout compass you carried around when back packing. I never have trusted the iOS compass simply because it does not rely on the same parameters that your old compass does. Hey Lisa... remember those compass rings you used to find in the cereal boxes when you were a kid? (Maybe those were before your time.) ;D

Sadly, yes I do. My brothers and I would empty out the box hunting for the "prize." ;D
