Got it started but I'm not sure it's actually transferring. The Imac says transferring at the top, but the progress bar seems to be stuck at starting up. The pc says it's attempting to reconnect. Should I leave it alone, or cancel it?

I'm presuming (you didn't say) that you are using something like Migration Assistant to move data from a PC to an iMac? There is a large prep time before data starts flowing, but I don't think it should be showing "reconnect" messages. Can you open Activity Monitor on the iMac (Applications/Utility) and then look at the Network tab to see if data is flowing?
