I'm off to the USA in a few weeks. If I buy an iPhone SE, sim free and unlocked, will it work with a UK PAYG sim?

Since they're all made in China I would expect so. Beware, however, of possible import duties on return and check whether warranty is valid in UK. For added protection I would buy with a credit card which makes the cc company jointly liable for the goods.

The SIM free iPhone SE sold my Apple will work on most GSM networks that are used in the UK and Europe. Be sure to check the bands the phone covers and then compare with what is available in the UK. And of course follow Sue's advice about buying with a credit card that offers a warranty on items purchased.
