Sound Volume Stuck On Silent on Power Macintosh G3 1998

I have a working 1998 Power Macintosh M3 Model M3979, and the sound suddenly went to a level zero. I used help to open the sound settings and when I slide the sound level up, there is a flash in the top of the window that basically says "nope!" and the slider goes back to zero instantly. Anyone know what might cause this, or how to fix it?

I fixed the problem! I had removed the memory earlier and put the RAM back in a different order. When I put it back in the same order, *POOF* the sound was back on!
