pdf text scrambled in Preview

When opening large pdfs, certain text (mostly titles) are scrambled, or gobblygook. Is there a way to prevent this or make sure it reveals the appropriate text. I understand that I could open those files in Adobe Acrobat, but I hate to have to keep going back and forth between Preview and Acrobat when working with pdfs.

Can you post the screen shot for Adobe Acrobat version, for comparison? I've never had this issue, and I was just wondering, if it was a font, that was misbehaving?

That is strange, that the difference is so severe. Definitely a font issue.

Are the PDF files you have scanned in, or are they downloaded files?

But, isn't a pdf just a "picture", so why should the font matter.

That is what I thought too, but I couldn't think of any other reason that would happen? That was why I originally asked for the Adobe image for comparison.

They are downloaded.

Sorry, I should have asked this first? Which Mac OS X version? What version of Preview? What version of Adobe Acrobat?
