Hi there,
I have an issue with my my iMac that if I put it to sleep via the drop down apple menu, when it wakes up, I get the wheel of death and it freezes.
I have to pull the plug out or to turn it off.
If i just let it go to sleep by setting the 'Energy saver", when it wakes up I do not have this problem.

It is frustrating as I subconsciously go to the apple menu and press 'sleep' sometimes at the end of the day.
I have the techs look at it several times but no one seems to be able to figure out the issue.
Cheers

As Patrick asks, in particular do you have an external hard drive attached for Time Machine backups. This will cause the problem you describe.

Thanks Patrick,
Yep, I have one solution.
The only Ex HD I have attached is my iTunes. I also save most things to a '4gig Personal Cloud'.
I use Time Machine, but do not leave it plugged in.
Will read through the pages you sent me,
Thanks
John
