Recently I found an old camcorder and some old home videos in my basement, and I want to import the tapes from the camera to my mac so that I can keep them in case something happens to the tapes. How would I do this? There is a cable that hooks up the camera from what I think is a USB type Mini B to USB type A, but I tried plugging it into my computer and it doesn't show up. I tried it with the camera on both record and player settings, but it doesn't seem to have an effect.

Any help is appreciated! :D

You can not transfer video through USB. You will need to use FireWire.

What Mac do you have?

Here's an adapter you can use from your camcorder to your iMac which should transfer the video as Bob has advised: LINK
