I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.11.16. Other than the Apps in the Dock, I have only a single folder on my Desktop; it is for pending docs and the like. Beneath the folder itself there now displays "Pending" and beneath that "4 items" -- the number varies from day to day. Is there a way not to display any of that so all that appears is the folder itself but no name and no number of items? Moving the folder to the Dock accomplishes this, but I would prefer to leave it on the Desktop. (Clearly, this is not a big deal.) Thank you.

I think this is what you are after:

Right Click on an empty part of the Desktop. From the Drop Down Menu, choose View Options. This is where you can select Icon size, arrangement and what info you want to see associated with the Desktop Icons.

Hope this helps.

Unchecking "show item info" will get rid of the number of items part. I'm not sure there's a way to remove the label entirely. I looked to see if you can set the color of the text to match the background, thus making it "invisible", but no luck so far.

Unclicking "Show Item Info" at View Options does eliminate the second line ("4 items" -- actually, now "5 items" because earlier I added a txt file with the URL to this thread), but not the name ("Pending").

Thinking of matching the text color to the color of the Desktop is very cool (hiding in plain sight), even if it can't be done!

Thank you both.

Getting rid of the name would be rather confusing with more than one Folder on the Desktop, so is probably not an option.

You could name it "....................Pending" with as many dots as it takes to make Pending wrap to another line and get truncated from view. ???

Thanks to all for your attention and ideas. I think I'll just leave it as is. It was just a thought. I appreciate your time.

You could always rename the folder using a number of spaces (or non-breaking spaces; <Option+space>)
