Welcome to our forums.

Have you tried to reset the "Haptic Feedback" touch for the home button?

Open “Settings” and go to “General”
Choose “Home Button” to access the Home button click preferences.
Tap on the 1, 2, or 3, and then press the Home button to test how it feels.
Exit Settings when satisfied with the Home button feedback.

If that doesn't help and your home button is still not working, try re-booting your iPhone 7. And finally, take it to Apple if after all that you can not get it to work.

Thank was going to be my suggestion if all other troubleshooting failed. The Home button may have failed...and needs to be replaced.

OP:

I'm glad you got it repaired, however, as delicate and small most of the components making up an iPhone are, it's something that I do not recommend for the average person to attempt. I've read of too many horror stories of iPhone owners trying to save a few bucks by repairing their own phones and wind up doing more damage in the process.

Additionally, changing the home button leaves you with a non-working Touch ID unless you have Apple address the issue for you. And, given that the phone is absolutely still under warranty................
