Did you purchase this iMac new through Apple, or through a reseller, or, did you buy this iMac used?

It sounds as though the video is not coming through the connector cable to the motherboard. Do you know if the iMac has been pulled apart?

HI and thanks for the reply. I bought it new and it has never been apart.

Try doing a SMC reset (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295)on the iMac to see if it gets your camera working again. Your model iMac has an older style (read: low resolution) camera which is no longer supported by Apple for replacement. You may be able to find a camera assembly for your model iMac on eBay or one of the many Apple Mac parts suppliers on the net. (If it turns out to be defective.)
