It use to be I could have a playlist and then check or uncheck the individual songs I wanted to hear. Now using iTunes 12.5 I do not see that option. Do I just have to delete the songs out of the playlist now? ty

Welcome.

In the latest iTunes 12.5.4.42, it is still possible to check or uncheck a song within a playlist and have it play or not. This applies to regular playlists as well as Smart Playlists. I have just verified this.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your question, but as I interpret it, there does not appear to be a problem.

When using iTunes 12.5.4 in 10.9.5 Mavericks, one has to have the vogue (i.e.: Songs) chosen to get the checkbox to show.

I don't know if that's the only way, but the only one and way I've found.

You can easily do it with latest version of iTunes 12.5.4.42. You can easily mark which song you want to play and which one not.
