Have just updated my iPhone 6 to IOS 10.2. Then took some photos. They are definitely in the camera roll. Plugged in the iPhone. Photos App on iMac opened, and window said "No Photos" when my iPhone device was selected. I have rebooted both my iPhone and iMac.. with the same results. This is the first time that this has occurred between the iMac and my iPhone. Feedback and assist would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What happens when you open your "Image Capture.app" and then attach your iPhone 6? As far as I'm aware, there have been no changes with iOS 10.2 as to how photos are transferred from the camera roll to your Mac.

Are you using either Photos library or Photostream? When in Photos for iOS, are the Photos in your Shared section?

The easiest way is to use Photostream to sync between phone and Mac. In settings on both, enable photostream and, if wished, switch off iCloud sharing. With wifi enabled, the pix transfer very quickly into Photos on the Mac and can be moved into albums if you want.
